How We Edit
Last updated October 19, 2026
A scene guide is only useful if you can trust the parts. This page is the method behind every piece we publish — what we source, how we label it, and what happens when we get something wrong.
The evidence ladder
Every factual claim in a piece sits on one of three rungs, and we say which:
- Documented. Traceable to a primary source: the brand's own product documentation, a published standard (care symbols, size chart conventions, fiber naming rules), or a retailer's stated specifications. These claims cite where they came from.
- Reported. Drawn from a body of owner reports — reviews, forum threads, wear reports — where a pattern is consistent enough to state. We say it's a pattern, not a measurement.
- Our read. Editorial judgment — why a combination works, when a rule of thumb breaks. Clearly framed as opinion, never dressed up as fact.
What we don't do: invent tests. You will never read "we tested this for 40 hours" on this site, because we don't have a lab. Where hands-on experience matters, we say what was actually done — wore it, washed it, measured it against the chart — or we leave it out.
Ratings and scores
We don't award star ratings. A score implies a measurement we don't take. Where a piece compares options, the comparison is a table of documented attributes with sources, not a leaderboard.
Prices and availability
When a price appears, it's the price on the linked page when the piece was last checked, and the piece says when that was. If we can't verify a price, we don't print one — the link checks the live listing instead.
Independence
No sponsored posts, no gifted-product reviews, no paid placements. Affiliate links are disclosed where they appear and on the Affiliate Disclosure page. Commission arrangements never decide what's recommended or in what order.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and note the update on the piece — publication dates never change, and updates are always visible. Substantive corrections say what changed. If you spot an error, email june@dreamyscene.com with the piece and the claim.
What we don't cover
No deal roundups, no coupon pages, no "best of" lists assembled from commission feeds, and no trend pieces built on speculation. If a category can't be covered from the evidence ladder above, we don't cover it yet.
